Alice in Wonderland and Other Tales

I'm pretty excited that Alice in Wonderland will be opening this week. It was one of my favorite stories when I was child. I usually don't get excited over new films, but for some reason this one has me counting the days until I can go see it.

Well, tonight the Winter Olympics come to an end. If you haven't already heard me say it a million times, I love to watch the Olympics. I'll be sad to see them go.

Can you believe that it's going to be March already? Tomorrow! Wasn't it just Christmas?
Note to self: Order garden seeds today! Where is that 'note to self' twitter guy when you need him? March begins tomorrow and I need my seeds asap. It will be time to start my cole seeds as soon as they arrive. I'm late. I'm late. I'm late. I'm late. I'm lateeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Until next time.....

Zucchini Puffs

If you're like me, you have an over abundance of squash during the summer. Even though we scaled back the number of plants, we still get more squash that we can eat. I grate and freeze excess zukes to make breads, to throw into pasta dishes and to make zucchini puffs. This recipe comes from an old book of mine called 'Eating Better For Less', edited by Ray Wolf.

When I freeze our grated zucchini, I pack it into quart containers. However, and this is important, when it thaws and you squeeze the water out of it, you get 1/2 the amount of squash. Your 2 cups of grated zucchini is now 1 cup. Very important for recipes.

Without further ado.....
2 cups shredded zucchini
1/2 cup shredded cheese- we use whatever kind we have
3 tablespoons grated onion
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon each: parsley, thyme, oregano, basil
2 eggs
3 1/2 tablespoons flour

~mix together. in a 12 cup muffin tin, spoon 1/2 - 1 teaspoon of oil in each cup. Heat the pan for a few minutes in the oven. Spoon batter into the cups and bake @ 375 degrees for 20 minutes or until golden.
John eats his with ketchup. I just eat mine plain.
Enjoy~

Because the Mockingbird Said So

Well, whether I like it or not, it's official. Winter is nearing the end and Spring is just around the corner. I do enjoy Winter and all it has to offer and I love the down time. But yesterday, one of the mockingbirds started to sing. And before we know it, they'll be pairing up and having babies.

Time to start ordering seeds and getting ready to plant broccoli and cabbage seeds for the Spring garden. I need to tune up the tiller now, so it's ready when I need it. Ole Troy and I have been together longer than me and John. Note to self: buy ingredients for my seed starter mix.

In my jewelry shop, I added new sections to reflect the change in season. The Cottage Garden and the Beach Bum section are new. I need to work on a Winter/Spring banner also.

Part of me wants to go back into hibernation, but that too shall pass. I think I'll spend today cleaning out some beds. And possibly, I'll tackle the garage. I said 'possibly'.
Have a great weekend~

Tennessee Winters

Tennessee winters are very unpredictable. We go from warm to cold. From rain to snow. And back again. We even had fog the other morning. We finally got the snow that I've been waiting for. It's been snowing since Sunday. On and off. But because it's not all that cold, there really isn't much of an accumulation on the ground.
It's still pretty out here though. I really should go out with my camera and take a few photos. Yesterday I looked out the kitchen window and counted approximately 50 cardinals sitting in the maple tree and eating seed under the feeders. 50! An explosion of color in a black and white landscape. This picture was taken through the window screen, so it's not the best quality, but you get the idea.
Until next time.....

Vintage Givre Glass ~ My Precious

Sometimes I feel like Gollum, sitting in front of my mountains of beads. "My precious. Such pretties. Oh, my precious".
There are a lot of beads that never make it into either of my Etsy shops because they are too precious to me.
Givre glass beads are one of them. I do make jewelry with them from time to time and have been known to sell a few loose beads. But for the most part, they remain in the studio; for my eyes only.

I recently purchased several shapes of vintage glass givre cabs that will be making an appearance in my jewelry shop. I've been having a hard time photographing them. Maybe it's because of the foil backing on them. I'll be listing a pair this weekend and then will try to re shoot my photos to see if I can capture their true beauty.

Funny, the things that we gravitate towards. Come a little closer to look at my beads. But don't get too close!
Until next time.....

Thing Finder

Yesterday, while I was waiting in line at the drive in window at the bank, I spotted a new treasure. A brand new Sam's Club sized Goodwill store. It was huge! And they were having their grand opening. Leaves bank and screeches through parking lot.....

My oh my! I've never been inside a virgin Goodwill store before. Everything was so orderly! The clothes were color coded and all in the right place.
I took a quick look in the jewelry case. Nothing.
I then made my way to my favorite section of thrift stores- kitchenware. They didn't have anything that just blew my socks off, but I did pick up two heavy vintage glasses.
I looked for rusty bits, but nothing called my name.
I need to go back regularly. It is so close to home; well as close as close gets out here.
Happy thrifting~
Until next time.....

HeartLine SALE

All jewelry in my HeartLine section is now 25% off.
Other than that, no new news. I see some snow flurries out there and we have snow in the forecast for this week. Some people are tired of winter, but I'm quite content with it myself. Life goes by quickly enough without rushing away the seasons.
Until next time.....

Snow and Rain and Rain and Snow

Last night it started to snow. A real pretty snow. Giant flakes. Thousands of them. Piling up fast. Althea wanted to go out, so I joined her. The perfect snowball snow.
Then it turned to rain. Bleh! It rained all night.
Early this morning it was snowing again. Now nothing. TN, what a tease you are!
At least I'm getting some work done around here. A few new pieces should be going up in the shop throughout the week.
Until next time.....

Snow and Ice

Good morning Wolf Moon:

Well, we finally got the snow that I've been wishing for! We didn't get as much as they predicted, but we did get 3"! Might not sound like a lot to some of you, but I'll take it. Freezing rain and sleet fell on top of the snow during the night. The next day, the snow was rock hard. Tennessee under ice. It's still frozen today. Our road is starting to melt a bit. I think that I'll venture out. Tomorrow~

Frozen Lavender:
