Gone Fishin'

See those two blank boxes to your right? They're my Etsy shops. They're empty right now, thus the white boxes. I'm taking a vacation and will probably be back around the first week in June.

So, if you're looking for vintage beads or jewelry, check back then. Or just come here and look at those boxes. If they're white, I'm still poolside.
P.S. I really won't be fishing. Those are my 'pet' fish up at Crystal Lake.
Until next time.....

Touch of Grey

Time for another song. This one is from one of my favorite bands that helped shape me into the person that I am today and gave me a reason to travel to parts unknown.

'Touch Of Grey' by the Grateful Dead

Must be getting early
Clocks are running late
Faint light of the morning sky
looks so phony
Dawn is breaking everywhere
Light a candle, curse the glare
Draw the curtains,
I don't care, cuz
It's alright
I will get by
I will get by
I will get by
I will survive

I see you've got your fist out
Say your piece and get out
Yes I get the gist of it,
butIt's alright
Sorry that you feel that way
The only there is to say:
Every silver lining's
got a touch of grey
I will get by
I will get by
I will get by
I will survive

It's a lesson to me
The eagles and the beggars and the seas
The ABC's we all must face
Try to keep a little grace
It's a lesson to me
The deltas and the east and the freeze
The ABC's we all think of
And try to win a little love

I know the rent is in arrears
The dog has not been fed in years
It's even worse than it appears,
butIt's alright
Cows giving kerosene
Kid can't read at seventeen
The words he knows are all obscene,
butIt's alright
I will get by
I will get by
I will get by
I will survive

The shoe is on the hand that fits.
There's really nothing much to it
Whistle through your teeth and spit,
cuzIt's alright
Oh well, a touch of grey
Kinda suits you anyway
And that was all I had to say,
andIt's alright
I will get by
I will get by
I will get by
I will survive
Until next time.....

My Favorite Tree

We planted three Norwegian Spruces on our property. They are, by far, my favorite non-local tree. They offer shade in the summer, greenery for decorating in the winter, pine cones! and they make a great block where you want privacy.
Their new growth in the Spring is amazing. The tips glow a bright neon green and the pine cones are red.

We named one of the spruces "The Dancing Spruce". She's shaped differently than the others. Her branches are long and lean, unlike the compact form of the others. She always produced the most pine cones. Last summer in the drought, she suffered terribly. She started dieing, branch by branch. But with Spring in the air, she starting to put on new growth- including pine cones. I'm going to cut all the dead limbs out and try and save her. Sure, she'll look like crap for a while, but with a little TLC, I'm hoping that she makes a comeback. The front yard wouldn't look the same without her.
Until next time.....

Never Really Alone

When you live out in a rural area, apart from the rest of the world, you're never really alone. I'm surrounded by a chorus of birds from sun up to sundown. Right now, it's the mockingbird right outside my window- singing away. Earlier this morning, it was the turkeys in the field across the road from us.
The other day, it was this pileated woodpecker and like John said, "every body's gotta eat".

There is always something or someone to watch out for too. If I'm tilling in the garden, I have to keep my eye out for the Dude. Last year, he brought his girl around for a tomato smorgasbord

And a couple of days ago, I was hanging the laundry out to dry, looked down and saw this guy. I love living in the country.

Until next time.....
