Bird Wars ~ Day 3

The Cedar Waxwings are still here, trying to eat the berries. And Bill is succeeding at keeping them away. Every now and then, they'll storm the Foster Hollies and grab a berry or two before Bill returns to chase them away. When I hear the commotion, I grab the camera. I still haven't been able to get any good shots, but the sun is out now, so the ones that I did get are a little clearer. I'm not crazy about posting bad photos, but at this point, it's all I have to offer.

They're at in again, right now. This time Althea is up in the window, watching the show. It's
going to be an entertaining day~

I've got to transplant our broccoli and cabbage seedlings today. I think I'll bring the camera with me. Maybe I'll get lucky and can finally get the money shot.
Hope your weekend is filled with simple pleasures.
Until next time.....

Cedar Waxwings vs One Mockingbird

Yesterday, while working in the office, I heard a commotion outside the window. I got up to see what it was and saw at least 100 Cedar Waxwings flying around. Every spring during their migration, they stop here to eat the berries from our Foster Holly trees. Every year but this one.
It seems that our Mockingbird that lives in the front yard doesn't want anyone eating his berries. These berries have been here all winter and this bird has hardly touched them. But, this is where he sleeps, so these trees are his. All three of them. M'birds are very territorial. Ever see one harass a cat or a hawk? Sassy birds! I can not believe that a flock this large is afraid of one little ole cat bird.

I've had my camera out, ready to photograph the birds if they ever get a chance to land on the trees to eat. We'll be eye to eye. I know that I could get some great shots, if only Bill (yes that's what we named him) would learn to share. I did take a few shots of them this morning, waiting patiently in the Bradford Pear, but it's dark and rainy and they didn't come out too good. I'll post better photos, if I get some.
Do you plant trees/bushes to feed the birds in your area?
Until next time.....

Welcome Spring

I've spent the last few days outdoors, working in the gardens. The veggie garden is still too wet to till, but it's too early to plant so I'm not concerned. We added bags of leaves and tilled it this past fall, so it is good to go.
I'm in the process of moving plants around, pruning, weeding, mulching, feeding. There's so much to do and I love every minute of it.

I'm offering FREE worldwide shipping in my jewelry shop to welcome in Spring. Sale ends Monday morning at 5:00 EST. Enjoy the weather.
Until next time.....

Monday Morning Reality Check

On my way out to the compost pile this morning, I noticed our first splash of color! Taking a quick look around the place, I see that suddenly the Earth is waking up. It's time to switch gears. Reorganize. Prioritize. Winter hibernation is over. Time to cut back on my online presence. If you don't see my around much, you now know why.
Until next time.....

Spring Flower Beads

I have a limited edition of some of my fave flower and leaf beads in my deStash shop. I may be adding more varieties, although I'm not sure. I'm getting to the point where I want to hold onto most of them. Quantities of vintage beads are limited and once they're gone, they're gone. Unless someone unearths another dusty, dark bead warehouse.
Click on the bead collage to get to my shop. Have a look around. If you see something you like, you should grab it before someone else does.

I've got one eye on the treasury, that is standing at 333! Better put the other eye on it.
Until next time.....

The Perfect Morning

This is where I was this weekend. We went up to our place atop Monteagle Mountain. The weather was perfect, although we were surprised to see snow on the ground in some places. Down here in rim world, we didn't have much snow. Up on the mountain, seems like they did.

It was the perfect morning. 39 degrees, a warm campfire. The sun about to come up over the lake. Hot coffee perked on the camp stove.
We dropped a few trees. Planted a few trees. Cleared some of the area where the house will go. Lounged around like beached whales. Ate. Drank. Walked to the bluff to watch the sunset.
Mr and Mrs B came by to check out their bluebird house. By the sound of their chatter, I think they approved and are ready to start building a nest.
I want to be back up on the mountain. I could easily go up there and never come down.
Until next time.....

A Date With Troy

Troy is the other man in my life. He's been around longer than my husband. I probably should mention that Troy is my Troy-Bilt Tiller. Our gardens aren't ready to till yet, but I need to get ole Troy ready for the season. I think this week him and I will get together. He needs an oil change and general clean up. I may need to replace one of the gaskets on the tine housing too. The great thing about this tiller is that it is very easy to work on. The service department is top notch; at least it was last time I had to work on him and needed assistance.

Several years ago, he wasn't idling properly and I couldn't get it right, so I took him to a shop that supposedly worked on Troy-Bilts. The dude told me that the engine needed to be rebuilt. #fail! I loaded Troy back in the truck and split. Who did he think he was dealing with? I knew he was wrong and was just trying to take advantage of the fact that I was female.
Troy tilled many a garden after that 'diagnosis' and after his tune up, he'll be ready for another year of gardening. I love him. xo
Hope the weather is starting to get Spring-like in your world.
Until next time.....

Just Around The Corner Now Part 2

The birds are coming back, slowly but surely. I love hearing them chatter away in the morning as they wake up. Sure sign that Spring is just around the corner! I can't wait until nests start being built and baby birds start peeping. Until then, here's some of the birds 'round here from previous years.
Are the birds coming back where you live?
Until next time.....

Just Around The Corner Now

Spring's just around the corner now. It won't be long before we're on our knees, digging in the dirt. Planting veggies, herbs, flowers. Picking bouquets from the garden. I'm yearning for the colors and textures of the season. Since they still lie dormant, I figured I'd unearth pictures from the past.
Enjoy~
Until next time.....

Cruisin' Etsy

I woke up this morning and decided that I wanted to make a treasury, so I did. I've been unable to master the art of screen shots, so if you want to take a walk in my Heirloom Garden, click here.
Here's some kitchen things that I'm lovin' right now. Give me vintage any day . Make them turquoise or aqua and I'm a happy girl.
From one of my oldest Etsy buds. She has several aqua things and it was hard to choose:
I love metal trays. And magnolias:

A girl can never have too many aqua canning jars:

Ohhhhh La La! Lazy Susan:

OK, I need to stop here. I am so easily distracted at times. I have a pile of work to get done today. Cruise around Etsy and see what you come up with.
Until next time.....

March Comes in Like a Lion

You know that old saying....."March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb". Trying to decide if today's weather is lion worthy. It's cold, but not that cold. It's gray looking out there, but not raining or snowing. There's no wind. They're calling for snow tomorrow. This weekend, they're predicting 50's-60's. I don't know. Is this lion-like? Maybe the cowardly lion from the Wizard of Oz?

What's it like where you live today? Has March come in like a lion? Or is he sitting on the fence, scratching his head, in your neck of the woods?
Until next time.....
