Saying Goodbye to Summer

Did summer fly by or what? Seems like it was just Memorial Day Weekend!
This summer sure did beat the last two, where we were dealing with serious drought conditions. Our gardens loved every inch of rain that they got. I think I only had to water three times all season. The pantry and freezers are stocked for the coming year. Feels great!
I'm ready for the season to change. Ready to say goodbye to summer and hellllllllllllo to autumn.
Until next time.....

Shadow Shot Sunday

Last night I hung up a string of pumpkin lights indoors and noticed all the shadows. So, of course, the first thing I think is "Oh, that would be perfect for SSS". Here's a couple of shots.

Jimi Hendrix 11/27/42 ~ 9/18/70

Jimi Hendrix died 39 years ago today.
Axis: Bold as Love was one of the first albums that I bought; along with a Janis Joplin LP. And what a great purchase it was!
Thank you Jimi, for the music. We still blast it in our home today; on CD and LP~
Until next time.....
~~~~~Cause I've got my own world to live through and uh, huh
And I ain't gonna copy you~~~~~
Mookite Love
Long before I fell in love with vintage beads, I used to work with gemstones. There are still some stones that I'm drawn to and pull out of my stash every once in a while. Mookite is one of them.
Nothing screams Autumn more than Mookite to me. So many different colors. I love them all. They remind me of Indian corn. Each one is different. I remember the year that I grew Indian corn in my garden. Every ear that I opened was a surprise. You never knew what you would find when you peeled back the husk.
I just finished a necklace and listed it in my jewelry shop. I also listed four extra strands in my deStash shop. Click on the pictures to get to them.
Yep, Autumn is rolling in. Today is dark, rainy, cool. It's a soup day. It's a Mookite day.
Until next time.....
Tips, Tricks 'n Recipes From the Garden
I just finished harvesting the last of our eggplants. We've been enjoying fresh ones. I do love them! We recently started growing white eggplants and I have to say that I like them better. They take less time to bake, are sweeter and have less seeds. And we get a better yield per plant.
I put up several quarts of eggplant puree in the freezer, which will be made into Baba Ghanoush later on in the year. To make the puree, I slice the eggplants lengthwise and roast, cut side down, on a baking sheet at 400 degrees for about 30 minutes, or until I can easily pierce them with a fork. Cool, peel, puree in blender and pack into freezer containers. To use: thaw and continue with your recipe of choice.
One thing that I am going to try this year is freezing eggplant slices to use in Eggplant Parmigiana. For those I'm going to peel the eggplants (or not), slice 1/2" thick rounds, dredge in flour, dip in a mix of 2 eggs/1T olive oil and dredge again, but this time in breadcrumbs. I'll arrange those on a baking sheet, freeze and pop in freezer bags. This 'should' work. I guess time will tell.
Until next time.....
Labor Day Weekend SALE
Say buh-bye to summer this weekend. Labor Day weekend is here. I thought we'd be spending it up at Crystal Lake, but looks like we'll be here.....working around the house. Imagine that! Working on Labor Day. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and do the right thing, which at this time is staying home to pressure wash the patio, walkway and steps. Then seal it. Also it's time to stain the deck and privacy fence and begin staining the house. But I don't wanna! I want to go camping.
I am having a sale in my jewelry shop, beginning today and ending Monday night at midnight. (9/3-9/7). 20% off my new Autumn jewelry, which can be found in my 'Autumn's Calling' section. To get there, just click on the photo of Crystal Lake. (where I WON'T be this weekend.)
So what are y'all doing this weekend?
Until next time.....
