Summer Sunflowers

One of my favorite summer flowers are sunflowers. Easy to grow and guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. I love watching the goldfinches feast on them. I can hear them outside now, chirping as they fly in for lunch.

Until next time.....

just beautiful, Katie. Do you let the birds eat them in fall or do you make wreaths?

I let the birds eat them. I've never made a wreath before with them.

Katie, do you now how to harvest the seeds? I have these amazing sunflowers that just started growing in my yard, and I'd love to collect the seeds so I can plant them again. I just don't know at what point the seeds are ready to be harvested. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Shelly- the seeds will start to loosen from the heads when they're ripe. And the shells will look like the sunflower seeds that we eat.
You may want to put a mesh bag or something over the head though because birds will eat them.

Great pics. I love the close-up one with all the texture! Nice. My poor sunflowers are about done. I've been pulling them up one by one and feeding them to the goats. One of their favorite treats. :)
